Mel began the Catalog of Homes in 1978 with equipment he purchased to publicize church youth activities. Beginning in Mel's garage with an IBM typewriter, process camera and table top press, he did it all in a small room.
Mel Doughty was born in Lansing, Michigan in 1941. However, he grew up in Mayfield, KY and graduated from high school there in 1959. Mel received a B.S. degree with an area in Business Administration from Murray State University in 1964 and received a Masters of Religious Education from Southern Baptist Seminary, Louisville, KY in 1966.
Mel is married to Patricia (Whitthorne), formerly a third grade school teacher at Longfellow. Mel also served as the Baptist Campus Minister for twenty-one years and is now the West Kentucky Collegiate Consultant of the Kentucky Baptist Convention. He works with Kings Players to sponsor Creations and does church-related screen-printing through King's Screen Printing. In addition, Mel travels the world coordinating mission trips throughout the year.

THE DIRECTORY
The Mayfield & Graves Co Visitor & Business Directory was conceived after Mel visited his daughter, Laura, in Malibu, CA. While there, he picked up a directory and knew that it was something that his hometown of Mayfield needed.
So, he came back on a mission to take the work he had done in creating the Catalog of Homes and he developed The Directory in the large format that it has been in since 2010.
The Mayfield Graves County Directory is part of us working together with our community to offer a fantastic view of the benefits of living here and information about the businesses that are here to serve this community. We find that many residents use the book for the services they need and it is especially used by the visitors coming to the Mayfield Graves County area.
